What is participation infrastructure?
Participation infrastructure is the network of relationships, access points, roles, rules and learning processes that enables people to contribute, exercise agency and build together over time.
Without these connections, programmes, departments and partners operate in silos. Investment becomes harder to coordinate, existing assets remain underused and learning stays trapped within individual initiatives.
We diagnose fragmentation, establish a shared view of participation and build the structures required for coordinated action.
84XOS™ is our proprietary model, applied through Intelligence, Index and Systems.
ATTENTION ≠
PARTICIPATION.
Culture has never been more visible. But visibility shows us who is watching, not who can contribute, exercise agency or shape what happens next.
THE PATTERN BENEATH THE CATEGORIES.
People participate across sport, art, fashion and music as one connected cultural system, moving between identities, communities and places.
Yet organisations structure these experiences through separate programmes and departments, fragmenting what people experience as connected.

A PATTERN BECAME VISIBLE.
Cultural convergence, the movement of ideas, audiences and influence across disciplines, did not begin in 1984. But that year made the pattern impossible to ignore.
Across music, style, sport, media and technology, the same connected dynamic unfolded at extraordinary scale.

Together, these examples revealed a pattern: culture develops through the interaction of communities, creative figures, institutions and technology, not within isolated categories.
Digital platforms later accelerated this convergence. But visibility alone does not create agency, belonging or shared ownership.

The theory camefrom insidethe work.

Steven Bramble spent 27 years at Nike, Inc., in retail, merchandising and strategic leadership roles across Nike, Jordan Brand and Converse.
Founder story
Throughout that work, he shaped how people connect with brands, products and communities.
He observed a recurring pattern: institutions invested in the same communities through separate programmes, partners and measures, while the infrastructure connecting their efforts remained fragmented.
That experience, combined with a long-standing study of cultural convergence, led to the founding of 84X and the development of 84XOS™. 84 marks the year the pattern’s potential came into focus. X represents the opportunity to build what comes next.
