ParticipationIsInfrastructure.
People create culture.Systems enable participation.
A world where every community across sport, music, art and fashion has the infrastructure to turn potential into participation, deepen belonging and create shared value for a stronger future.
84X builds participation infrastructure.
84X partners with national organisations, including governing bodies, foundations, cultural institutions and brands, that invest in local communities through multiple programmes and partnerships.
What is participation infrastructure?
Participation infrastructure is the network of relationships, access points, roles, rules and learning processes that enables people to contribute, exercise agency and build together over time.
Without these connections, programmes, departments and partners operate in silos. Investment becomes harder to coordinate, existing assets remain underused and learning stays trapped within individual initiatives. This limits community potential and prevents value from compounding over time.
Using 84XOS™, we unlock cultural and institutional value by establishing a shared view of participation, aligning activity and investment, and turning evidence into coordinated action.
ATTENTION ≠
PARTICIPATION.
Culture has never been more visible. But visibility shows us who is watching, not who can contribute, exercise agency or shape what happens next.
THE PATTERN BENEATH THE CATEGORIES.
People participate across sport, art, fashion and music as one connected cultural system, moving between identities, communities and places.
Yet organisations structure these experiences through separate programmes and departments, fragmenting what people experience as connected.

A PATTERN BECAME VISIBLE.
Cultural convergence, the movement of ideas, audiences and influence across disciplines, did not begin in 1984. But that year made the pattern impossible to ignore.
Across music, style, sport, media and technology, the same connected dynamic unfolded at extraordinary scale.

The theory camefrom insidethe work.

Steven Bramble spent 27 years at Nike, Inc., working in retail, merchandising and strategic leadership roles across Nike, Jordan Brand and Converse. His work focused on how people connect with brands, products, culture and communities.
Founder story
“Across those years, I saw institutions investing in many of the same communities through separate programmes, partnerships and measures. The individual work often had value, but the connections between it were missing. Assets were underused, learning remained isolated and communities had to navigate systems that were not designed around how they actually participate.”
This observation developed alongside Steven’s long-standing study of cultural convergence: how people move across sport, music, art and fashion, while institutions continue to organise those experiences separately.
He founded 84X to address that disconnect and developed 84XOS™ as a model for establishing a shared view of participation, aligning activity and investment, and turning evidence into coordinated action.
84 marks the year the pattern’s potential came into focus. X represents the opportunity to build what comes next.
